2 held in tenant murder case
The Phagwara police have solved the sensational Abhimanyu Singh murder case at Khajurla village on October 5 with the arrest of two suspects on Sunday. The case came to light when the decomposed body of Singh was discovered inside his rented room under suspicious circumstances on October 5.
SSP, Kapurthala, Vatsala Gupta, talking to the media here on late Sunday evening, said the accused were identified as Mohammad Munna and Mohammad Firoze, both residents of New Delhi.
SSP Gupta said according to the statement given by the house owner Harinder Kumar, alias Happy, Singh was his tenant. Harinder revealed that another tenant Mohammad Munna informed him that Singh had not been seen for several days and a foul smell was emanating from his room, which was locked from the outside.
Peeping through the ventilator, they were shocked to find Singh’s blood-soaked body lying inside. The police were immediately alerted and an investigation was launched. Gupta said during interrogation, the police recovered the sharp-edged weapon used in the crime.
The police investigation revealed that the motive behind the murder was professional rivalry. Singh was a contractor at a haveli in Phagwara and Munna allegedly wanted to take over his position. In a premeditated plan, the two suspects killed Singh in his room, locked the door from outside and fled the scene.
The police are continuing investigation and further questioning is underway.
