Harpreet Singh, brother of Khadoor Sahib MP and radical Amritpal Singh, and his aide Lovepreet Singh have been remanded to two-day police custody by the Sessions Court here today.

Harpreet and Lovepreet were arrested allegedly with 4 gm ICE on July 11 by the Jalandhar rural police. They had been sent to judicial custody by a Phillaur court. The Jalandhar rural police had been trying to obtain their remand since then.

Meanwhile, Harpreet Singh’s lawyer today termed the case bogus. The Jalandhar police have so far arrested four persons in the case – Harpreet Singh, Lovepreet Singh and two Ludhiana-based persons – drug supplier Sandeep Arora and his associate Manish Marwaha.

While the police are tightlipped regarding the supply chain of drugs in the case amid the investigation into financial links of supplier Sandeep Arora, following the police remand of Harpreet and Lovepreet, more revelations can be expected in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Joyesh Thomas, advocate of Harpreet Singh, speaking to mediapersons in Jalandhar, said, “I am following this case from day one. A false case has been registered. He (Harpreet) is being targeted because he is the brother of Amritpal. Attempts are being made to defame his family.”

He said, “They were not even picked (arrested) from the spot which was mentioned by the police. They weren’t picked from Phillaur as has been conveyed to me during conversation with the family. They were picked from the other side.”Speaking on the drug test report of Harpreet that is positive, Thomas alleged, “Harpreet goes to a gym and uses steroids. The report of the dope test of such a person will always be positive. Lovepreet was also on steroids, that’s why his report was positive. There is a contradiction in various police versions on whether ICE or intoxicant powder was found from the duo. As far as the UPI transaction (with a Ludhiana drug supplier) is concerned, that too hasn’t been presented in the court.”

When questioned on the police claim on the presence of four drugs in Harpreet’s dope test, Thomas said, “The police are yet to share the report.” Thomas also said the bail application of Harpreet had also been filed. While Sandeep Arora and Manish Marwaha had earlier served three-day police remand, they had been remanded to 14-day judicial custody and are presently in the Kapurthala jail.

DSP, Phillaur, Sarwanjit Singh said, “Both have been remanded to two-day custody of the Phillaur police. Further development in the case depends on their revelations. The probe is on.”
