18 years on, Nurmahal police station building still incomplete
The police station in Nurmahal was functioning from a private building in the year 2016. People of the town donated six kanal and 18 marla land belonging to Patti for the construction of the city police station and spent Rs 25 lakh on its construction. However, the government took no further action to complete the building. The police station building land stands mutated in the name of common owners.
As a result, even after the lapse of 18 years, the government could not give last touches to the building because its land could not be transferred in favour of the Police Department.
Nurmahal Nagar Council at its meeting held on June 11, 2012, passed a unanimous resolution No. 40 for transferring six kanal and 18 marla land to the Police Department for the construction of the building for the Nurmahal police station which has been rejected by Director, Local Government.
Residents repeatedly urged the then Chief Ministers Parkash Singh Badal, Capt Amarinder Singh, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Charanjit Singh Channi and the present incumbent Bhagwant Singh Mann to approve the civic body’s resolution so that mutation of land could be transferred in the name of the Police Department, but to no avail. Barracks for police personnel, boundary walls, floor and parking spaces are yet to be constructed.
