161 students create 70x70 portrait of architect BV Doshi
At the 67th Zonal National Association of Students of Architecture Convention, hosted by the CT Group of Institutions, 161 architecture students collaborated to craft a massive 70-foot by 70-foot portrait of renowned Indian architect, Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi.
The project seeks to set a new record in the Limca Book of Records, surpassing the previous 1,500 sq ft acrylic painting in the group category.
Doshi was the first Indian architect to receive the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2018. The large-scale portrait, created using acrylic paints and bubble wrap, is a tribute to his ground-breaking contributions to architecture and urban planning.
The initiative was carried out under the guidance of the Head of the Department of Architecture, Shruti H Kapur. “This project is a monumental way of honouring BV Doshi’s legacy. It is heartening to see students channel their admiration into such a large-scale and meaningful creation,” said Kashish Saini, zonal president of the NASA’s Zone 1.
Architect Dinesh Chander Bhagat, Head of Department at Government Polytechnic, Jalandhar, commended the teamwork. Architect Ravina, Assistant Town Planner, also attended the event.
The portrait has been officially submitted to the Limca Book of Records for consideration in the ‘Above 18 years’ category, reflecting an effort to celebrate the visionary work of BV Doshi.
