14-year-old girl dies by suicide
In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her residence in the Abadpura locality near the Model Town here. The girl, identified as Dayavanti, a seventh-grade student at a government school, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room.
The incident came to light on Tuesday night when the girl's sister returned home and went to her room only to discover her sister hanging from a noose. She immediately raised the alarm and her mother, who was doing ‘puja’ (prayer) on the ground floor of the house, rushed to the room.
The police from Division Number-6 were promptly arrived at the scene. Investigating Officer Satpal confirmed that the body was sent to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination last night, and after completing the formalities, it was handed over to the family today.
He said, according to initial reports, Dayavanti had returned home from school earlier in the day and had gone to her room. “The family in their statement had claimed she was neither upset, nor anything was wrong with her. The girl even didn’t have a mobile phone of her own and her friends at school also said she was normal like any other day”, Satpal said, adding that the motive behind the tragic act was still unclear.
He further said the family had raised neither suspicion on anyone, nor demanded any further investigation in the case, thus, legal proceedings under the relevant section of the BNS had been started.
