14 e-vehicles with hydraulic lift arrive for waste collection in Jalandhar
Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh today launched 14 e-vehicles equipped with a hydraulic lift system for waste collection in the city as a step towards improving waste management.
The minister said that these vehicles will collect waste in a segregated manner, ensuring proper disposal. He announced that a total of 100 such vehicles would soon be operational in Jalandhar, giving a boost to the city’s cleanliness drive.
In a groundbreaking move, the minister also introduced the digital tehbazari system in Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, allowing rehri (street cart) owners to pay their charges online through QR codes, streamlining the payment process and enhancing transparency.
During his visit, the minister inspected a medical camp organised for sanitation workers and praised the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation’s efforts in enrolling these workers under the e-Shram portal. Additionally, he highlighted the provision for benefits such as the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and IHRMS (Integrated Human Resource Management System) for sanitation workers, underscoring their importance in maintaining hygiene in the city.
