With 28 fresh cases having been reported this season, dengue has spread its tentacles in the Corporation Town Phagwara. When contacted, Senior Medical Officer Phagwara Davinder Singh has confirmed that a total of 12 dengue cases have been detected positive. He said though it was a total failure of the working of Municipal Corporation Phagwara, the Health Department was actively adopting all possible preventive measures.

Cases of vector-borne diseases are usually reported between July and November, but the period may stretch to mid-December, said a senior health official. As per the health experts, dengue cases will be at peak in October.

Dr Singh said, “The cases reported this year are, till date, comparatively less as compared to last year. Until now, we have been successful in controlling the epidemic.” The Tribune has learnt that most of the dengue cases are going unreported by different doctors. Several dengue patients either are being treated by private doctors or being referred to Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
