Jalandhar residents stage a protest against garbage dump
Residents of Vikaspuri, New Vikaspuri, Ambika Colony, Guru Ram Dass Nagar and Santokh Pura Navi Abadi staged a protest against the MC today, demanding the relocation of the massive garbage dump on Vikaspuri Tanda Road. The residents are pressing for the dump to be moved to a non-residential area.
The protesters claim that the dump has taken over a significant portion of the road, with garbage spilling onto the main road, causing serious safety hazards. Stray animals frequent the site, posing a threat to the residents, while the garbage strewn across the area is a major health risk.
“The dump at the entrance of our localities not only gives a terrible first impression but also pollutes the environment and endangers health,” said Sanjay Verma, a resident.
He said the constant presence of rag pickers has also led to traffic congestion.
Although the protest was initially planned for four hours, it was called off after an hour when MC officials intervened. They assured the residents of a meeting with the MC Commissioner to address their concerns, scheduled for tomorrow.
