Jalandhar police crack murder case; main accused arrested
In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar rural police solved a murder case within five hours of receiving the complaint, leading to the arrest of the main accused. The case involves the murder of a woman whose body was recovered from a pond in Atta village.
The accused, identified as Liaqat Ali of Gara village near Phillaur has been arrested while his accomplice Abdul Gani of the same village, who has also been nominated in the case, is on the run.
Speaking to mediapersons, Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the investigation gathered momentum when technical surveillance and human intelligence networks were activated immediately after receiving a complaint from the accused’s namesake, Liaquat Ali of Ashahur village. The complainant said his wife Shakura, who had gone to Banga, did not return home. Multiple teams were formed to work on different aspects of the investigation.
The police team that cracked the case was led by SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Phillaur Sarwan Singh Ball, PPS, along with Phillaur SHO Inspector Sanjeev Kapoor and the investigation team of the Phillaur police station.
Upon sustained questioning, the accused confessed to the crime and led the police to the pond at Atta village, from where the body was recovered. The victim's clothes were also recovered and identified by family members.
A case has been registered under Sections 103 and 238 of the BNS against both accused.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had illicit relations with the victim. On the day of the crime, he and his brother Abdul Gani met the victim near the canal and strangled Shakura, following which they disposed of her body in the village pond. The arrested accused will be produced in a local court.
