Jalalabad tops Fazilka district in candidate count

As many as 2,551 candidates for the post of sarpanch and 6,583 for the post of panch are in the fray in Fazilka district after scrutiny.

Additional district electoral officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Subhash Chander said that during the scrutiny, only 52 nominations for the post of sarpanch and 138 nominations for the post of panch had been rejected.

After the verification of nomination papers, 463 candidates for the post of sarpanch and 1,296 for the post of panch are in the fray in Abohar block. There are 376 candidates for the post of sarpanch and 1,092 for the post of panch in Khuian Sarwar block. Similarly, there are 251 candidates for the post of sarpanch and 716 for the post of panch in Arniwala Sheikh Subhan block.

There are 608 candidates for the post of sarpanch and 1,356 for the post of panch in Fazilka block. In Jalalabad block, there are 853 candidates for the post of sarpanch and 2,123 for the post of panch.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations by October 7 and voting will be held on October 15.
