Jai Ram Thakur’s tenure was a dark phase for Hamirpur: Congress
Hamirpur, July 5
The HPCC chief spokesperson, Prem Kaushal, said the district was not only deprived of development but was also denied a ministerial berth by former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
He said the former CM misled people on development during his recent visit to the town. Kaushal added that despite one seat being vacant in Thakur’s Cabinet, he denied it to the MLAs from the district.
Speaking here today, Kaushal said Hamirpur is an important district, but the former CM devaluated its honour and pride. He said Thakur had no right to seek favour from the people of Hamirpur and should refresh his memory about the neglect he had accorded to the district.
Kaushal said the medical college and health institutions that Thakur listed here yesterday were established with the support of the Congress leaders, while others could be credited to former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal. “But Jai Ram’s tenure was a dark phase for the district,” he added.
Lambasting the claims of BJP candidate Ashish Sharma, Kaushal said, “He remained busy in securing government works for his brother’s company and never bothered to work for the constituency.”
Showing a list of works, Kaushal said the company owned by Sharma’s brother had secured development works of over Rs 140 crore in the financial year 2023-24. The HPCC spokesperson added that he was not against the development works, but wanted to expose that the then MLA was more concerned about family promotion than public welfare.
