War of words over Articles 370, 35A continues in Valley
As politics over Article 370 and 35A refused to die down in Kashmir Valley, lailed Lok Sabha MP Engineer’s Rashid party on Saturday hit out at the ruling National Conference and accused it of failing to honour “its pledge to restore Article 370 and 35A.”
“NC promised to bring a strong resolution in the Assembly on this crucial issue, but the resolution they eventually brought—only after pressure from AIP and others—was ambiguous, chaotic and didn’t even condemn the post-abrogation situation,” Party’s chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said in a statement on Saturday.
“NC now tells people to wait for a change of government in Delhi. But even if Congress comes to power, they have termed Article 370 a ‘closed chapter.’ So, which government are the people of Jammu and Kashmir supposed to wait for?” he said.
The AIP’s statement comes a day after J&K Peoples Conference president and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone accused the National Conference of aligning with BJP’s agenda, terming it as the BJP’s “A-team.”
Lone had said that NC “betrayed the people of Jammu and Kashmir by failing to bring an unambiguous and strong resolution condemning the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A.”
Lone referred to the “People’s Resolution,” presented by a section of the opposition, as the real voice of dissent and warned that this issue would continue to haunt the Assembly throughout its term.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had on November 6 passed a resolution urging the Centre to initiate a dialogue with elected representatives of the Union Territory for the restoration of special status.
