Jammu, November 28
In a virtual snub to the University of Jammu, the Jammu and Kashmir Raj Bhawan has asked the university administration “to assign the charge of Registrar to an eligible candidate”.
The Raj Bhawan has also directed the university to expedite the process for the appointment of Registrar as per the prescribed norms and statutes of the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969. It was conveyed to Vice Chancellor Manoj K Dhar in an official communication sent on November 22.
Earlier, the Raj Bhawan had taken a serious note of the appointment of an overage faculty member, Prof RK Ganjoo, as Registrar and sought an explanation from Dhar.
Former Governor of erstwhile J&K state Satya Pal Malik, who was the Chancellor of the university, had asked the Vice Chancellor for the reasons for assigning the additional charge to Ganjoo, who has already crossed 60 years of age as on April 11, 2019.
The Raj Bhawan had also asked the Vice Chancellor to submit an update regarding the steps taken to fill the tenure-based post of Registrar.
On September 27, the University of Jammu had removed Dr Meenakshi Kilam from the charge of the Registrar and gave the additional charge to Ganjoo. On the same day, The Tribune had prominently highlighted that Ganjoo was declared “ineligible” for various tenure-based posts advertised by the university from time to time. Ganjoo was declared ineligible for the post of director, college development council (CDC), and controller of examinations — both tenure-based posts.
Ganjoo had not applied for the post of Registrar advertised by the university. As per the advertisement notice, the selection for the post of Registrar, the CDC director and the controller of examinations shall be made for five years. The retirement age for the university faculty is 62 years. Ganjoo is retiring in April 2021.
