Two OGWs booked under PSA in Doda

Two overground workers (OGWs), allegedly involved in anti-national activities, were booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Doda district on Saturday.

Saqib Hussain Mir of Banola-Chiralla and Adil Iqbal Batt of Sazan-Bhagwah had been running terror modules to revive militancy in Doda at the behest of a local terrorist, Mohammad Amin, alias Khubaib, of Kathwa-Phagsoo in Thathri, who is presently operating from Pakistan, a police spokesman said.

“The activities of Mir and Batt were highly detrimental and prejudicial to the security of J&K. Acting on the dossier of the police, the Doda District Magistrate ordered detention of both under the PSA to prevent them from acting in any manner prejudicial to the security of the Union Territory,” the spokesman said.

He said Khubaib, who joined militancy in early 1990s and crossed the border for arms training in Pakistan, had been making desperate attempts from across the border to revive militancy in Doda by instigating local youth for subversive activities.

Mir and Batt are closely linked to Khubaib and have been persuading local youths to join militancy, the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, “bovine smuggler” Mohd Amin, a resident of Manjmi-Dessa in Bhagwah tehsil, has also been booked under the PSA in Doda. So far, seven FIRs have been registered against Amin, a police spokesman said. As many as 51 persons have been arrested and 20 cases lodged besides 315 animals rescued this year so far.
