Top Punjab, J&K cops, BSF officials discuss ways to bolster security grid

Jammu, July 11
Amid rising terror incidents in Jammu region, a high level inter-state meeting of police and Border Security Force (BSF) officials took place in Kathua on Thursday in which measures to plug the gaps along International Border (IB) in J&K and Punjab were discussed.
The meeting was attended by J&K Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav and Special Director General of BSF, Western Command, YB Khurania, among other senior officials. Representatives from Central intelligence agencies, including the IB, also took part in the meeting.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), J&K, Vijay Kumar, ADG (Law and Order), Punjab, Arpit Shukla, senior BSF officials from Punjab and Jammu were also present at the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the security grid along the IB in Jammu and Punjab. Enhancing the security at Punjab and J&K border, which is crossed by thousands of vehicles daily, was also discussed. Discussions were held on security arrangements for the vehicles of Amarnath pilgrims entering into J&K from Punjab.
It has been reliably learnt that the meeting also discussed the real-time sharing of actionable information between the two police forces and BSF. It was decided that the two police forces will increase joint vigil along with the BSF in border areas in their respective regions. Emphasis was also given to use technology to detect infiltration at the IB. A presentation on possible infiltration routes by terrorists from Pakistan was also given during the meeting. Officials also discussed about the attempts by Pakistan to send arms and narcotics through drones in areas along IB and measures to stop such activities.
Punjab DGP in a statement on X stated, “Today a highly useful Inter-State Coordination Conference between BSF, J&K Police, Central agencies and the Punjab Police was held in Kathua, J&K, to focus on enhancing border security and synergy between the two state police forces and the Border Guarding Force”. The DGP stated that the conference was held for exchange of best practices and exploring innovative solutions to bolster border management and public safety.
