Sunil Sharma elected as BJP legislature party leader in J-K
BJP leader Sunil Sharma was on Sunday elected leader of the BJP party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Sharma, an MLA from Padder Nagseni seat, won by 1,546 votes against National Conference's Pooja Thakur.
Sharma is a former minister and general secretary of the party in J&K and defeated Thakur, a sitting chairperson of the District Development Council, Kishtwar.
Padder Nagseni was one of the six Assembly seats added to the Jammu region following delimitation exercise conducted in the UT with the final report submitted on May 5, 2022.
Sharma, party sources said, played a major role in the UT in expanding BJP organisation after the abrogation of Article 370.
Sharma represented Kishtwar constituency in the 2014 Assembly poll and was Minister of State for Science, Technology and Transport.
Sharma, 47, was declared elected on Sunday in the presence of BJP central observers -- national general secretary in charge of J&K Tarun Chugh and Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi.
“We are sure Sunil Sharma in his new role as leader of opposition in the JK Assembly will take all sections along, strengthen progress, security and good governance in Jammu and Kashmir and work with complete dedication to help achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat and Viksit J&K,” Chugh said.
