Shiv Sena demands exemption of fees for competitive exams
The Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K unit called on the administration to waive the application fees for candidates appearing in various competitive exams, arguing that these fees placed an unnecessary financial burden on many aspirants.
At a press conference, Manish Sahni, the state chief of the party, emphasised that youth empowerment could not be effectively pursued without addressing the financial barriers faced by unemployed youth. “The recruitment exam fees are a significant obstacle for the future of poor and unemployed youth. In neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bangladesh, competitive exams are free. States such as Rajasthan and Assam have introduced a ‘one-time’ fee system. However, in J&K, under Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB), candidates are required to pay an application fee of Rs 600-700 for each exam, while JKPSC charges between Rs 700-1200,” Sahni said.
He also pointed out that candidates were not refunded their fees if an exam was cancelled due to issues like paper leaks or rigging.
Sahni further argued that making competitive exams free of charge would offer considerable relief to struggling youth, allowing them to focus on exam preparation without the added financial stress.
