Security up at hydro projects in Kishtwar district
Days after an attempted ambush on an Army vehicle in Akhnoor of Jammu, the police in mountainous Kishtwar district have strengthened security at all hydro-electric projects.
A meeting of the police was held in the district on Wednesday in which security around these projects was discussed. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kishtwar, Abdul Qayoom also reviewed the anti-terror efforts and tracking of any suspicious movement of ultras in the region.
“SSP Kishtwar, Abdul Qayoom conducted a comprehensive crime and security review meeting focusing on the security of the district’s hydroelectric power projects, other vital installations and preparations for the upcoming Diwali celebrations. The meeting aimed to ensure public safety during the festive season and protect key infrastructure in the district. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the police,” said an official spokesperson.
Terrorists recently attacked a tunnel project in Ganderbal of Kashmir. Seven people were killed in the attack by terrorists. Detailed security protocols around the hydel projects in Kishtwar were reviewed, including enhanced surveillance, regular patrolling and deployment of dedicated security personnel to protect these critical infrastructures from potential threats.
In addition, SSP Kishtwar highlighted the ongoing training of village defence groups (VDGs) to equip them with essential skills in community safety and rapid response. The training aims to enhance the readiness of VDGs to support law enforcement efforts, particularly in remote and sensitive areas against terror attacks, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively to any potential threats.
The SSP also led an analysis of recent crime patterns across the district to identify priority areas for proactive intervention. He also reviewed progress in ongoing investigations in which updates on ongoing probes were reviewed with a focus on timely case resolution and ensuring justice for victims through effective case management.
The SSP also laid emphasis on community engagement, fostering a cooperative approach to public safety and reinforcing peace within the community.
Current crime prevention initiatives were assessed to optimise resource allocation and enhance security outcomes district-wide. Discussions also included comprehensive measures to combat drug abuse through prevention, awareness, rehabilitation and targeted enforcement.
To reinforce vigilance, SSP Kishtwar instructed officers to maintain daily updates through e-beat book records and directed them to strengthen area domination, increase patrolling and conduct targeted CASOs (Cordon and Search Operations) in vulnerable zones. Officers were urged to remain alert, fortify checkpoints and proactively gather intelligence to counter potential anti-national activities.
SSP Kishtwar stressed the importance of heightened vigilance, especially during the festive season, to ensure a secure and peaceful environment for all residents of Kishtwar.
