The Congress-NC coalition would form the government with a comfortable majority and the final results would be much better than the numbers projected in the exit polls. J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra stated this while attending a meeting with party candidates of the Jammu region on Sunday.

An official spokesperson for the party said: “Participants expressed confidence in the winning prospects of the party and said the Congress-NC will get complete majority to form the government. Party candidates also briefed Karra about the role of the police and the administration in favor of the ruling party and the failure of the administration at most places in taking action against the electoral malpractices resorted to by ruling party candidates”.

Karra later said the numbers of the NC-Congress coalition would be higher than predicted in the exit polls. The coalition would gain comfortable majority to form the government.

Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Karra said: “The exit polls are in tune with our claim. However, our expectations are much more than the projected numbers”. Both coalition partners would have good numbers, he said, adding that the basic purpose of forming coalition would be achieved.

He said doors for likeminded parties and individuals would be open to keep the BJP out of power.

On the question of nomination of five MLAs by the L-G and giving them role in the formation of the government, Karra said it would amount to rigging the poll results and contrary to the basic concept of democracy.

“The Congress will oppose it tooth and nail. It will not allow the BJP to succeed in its designs,” he said.
