Report of attack on Kashmir University VC could not be corroborated: Police
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday that the report about the attack on the Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University on Tuesday night “could not be corroborated, factoring in all possible circumstances.”
Prof Nilofer Khan, VC of Kashmir University, had claimed on Tuesday night that she came under attack and a few bullets were fired at her cavalcade here while she was on way to home in Zakura area of Srinagar.
The escort of the VC had opened fire in retaliation.
Srinagar Police said on Wednesday that “police parties who visited the spot did not find corroboration of bullet marks.”
“Entire area was thoroughly searched and nothing corroborating the alleged version was found,” the police wrote on X.
According to the police, the people around and nearby police naaka (checkpoint) also “did not hear any firing sounds, except some rounds fired by security personnel detailed with VC, who made caution fire purportedly on some perceived suspicion.”
“Matter, however, is being enquired into,” the police said.
