Rana sets timelines for Pir Panjal water projects

Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmad Rana, chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat here to review the activities of Jal Shakti Department and assess progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

The meeting was attended in person by Chief Engineer PHE, Jammu, and Superintending Engineer, Jammu while officers from Poonch and Rajouri participated via video conferencing.

During the meeting, Rana emphasised the need for expediting the water supply schemes (WSSs) in Pir Panjal region and set strict timelines for their completion. He directed the officials to work on a war footing, regularly monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of projects.

Expressing concerns over the stalled projects, the minister urged the Chief Engineer to take immediate corrective measures and improve the system for the welfare of the public. He also reviewed measures to maintain continuous supply of water in remote areas and called for proactive initiatives, including a robust complaint redressal mechanism, to address public grievances effectively.

Rana stressed the importance of the JJM as a “prestigious project” aimed at providing the basic services to rural areas, cautioning officials against any laxity. He highlighted the need for adherence to laid-down parameters and timely execution.

Addressing the malfunctioning machinery in Mendhar region, the minister instructed officers to prioritise the issue and ensure the judicious use of the resources. Officials were also presented the detailed report on the status and timelines of various WSS projects.
