Prabhat is J&K Director General of Police, to resume office today
Senior IPS officer Nalin Prabhat, who took over as J&K’s new Director General of Police (DGP) from RR Swain, will resume the office from Tuesday. DGP Swain superannuated on Monday.
A 1992-batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, Prabhat holds significant experience in anti-militancy as he has served stints both in Jammu and Kashmir and Naxal-affected areas in his career.
A three-time Police Gallantry Medal winner, Prabhat, who also headed the Greyhounds, an elite anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh, was appointed the J&K police chief last month after his tenure as the NSG chief was cut short.
When the new DGP will resume office on Tuesday, the biggest challenge on his mind would be to deal with the new wave of lethal militancy that has swept the Jammu region.
A senior paramilitary officer, who has worked with Prabhat, said: “His thought process and action are more inclined towards operations. Everyone is hopeful that his work experience will achieve good results in J&K”.
Prabhat headed the CRPF as special DG, J&K zone. In Kashmir, he served as the IG (Operations), CRPF, Kashmir Sector, and DIG (Operations), CRPF in South Kashmir.
The foremost challenge for the new DGP is to curb the new militancy, which has emerged in Jammu region.
