Panic gripped Jammu after reports of an explosion spread on social media that were later refuted by the police claiming it was a fire incident that took place two days ago.

The reports of an explosion started to spread after some social media groups claimed that the fire incident was actually due to an explosion at an aluminium shop in Channi Himmat area of Jammu.

In a statement, police stated, “Today, news on some media groups is in circulation about some explosion that took place at the Marble Market area under Channi Himmat police station.

“The fact is that on October 16 at 11 pm a fire had broken out in Anish Aluminium Shop at the Marble Market in Channi Himmat due to some unknown reason but with the help of police it was doused out well in time. Since the matter pertains to fire incident, a proper report has been lodged at Channi Himmat police station and inquiry has been entrusted to ASI Gulam Hussain.” The police requested the section of social media to always confirm the contents of the news from a responsible police officer before publishing it.
