PO involved in drug smuggling case arrested
The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have successfully apprehended a proclaimed offender in North Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.
A J&K police spokesperson said police in north Kashmir’s Handwara, in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), successfully apprehended a proclaimed offender, Muneer Ahmad Banday, a resident of Handwara, who was carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh.
The accused had been evading arrest since June 2020 and was involved in a multi-million drug smuggling case, which had significant implications for funding illegal activities.
His arrest marks a major success for police and other security agencies in the fight against organised crime and narco-terrorism, the police said. “Further investigation into the case is going on,” the police spokesperson said.
