Outreach event for gem, jewellery industry held
Srinagar, August 30
A senior UT official has said the Jammu and Kashmir Government would extend all support to local associations and artisans to enhance the export potential of the gem and jewellery sector in the region.
A statement on Friday said that the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in association with Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GEPC) North Region, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), organised an outreach programme on Thursday in Srinagar to “create awareness and to educate traders to enter jewellery export business.”
Commissioner, Industries and Commerce, Vikramjit Singh, who was the chief guest, said that after he took charge as Commissioner, he realised the scope and future of the gem and jewellery industry in the region.
He said somehow the hidden potential of the gem and jewellery couldn’t be highlighted in the past and it remained unnoticed despite no dearth of skilled manpower in the territory.
He said that realising the need to enhance the export potential of the gem and jewellery sector in the region, the government would extend all support to the local associations and artisans.
President KCCI Javed Ahmad Tenga termed the event as a turning point and emphasised on holding international/national exhibition at Srinagar to provide opportunity to local entrepreneurs.
