As the Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress alliance government has completed one month in office in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference on Saturday said that “significant progress” has already been made.

On October 16, Omar Abdullah officially took charge as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after the National Conference emerged as the single largest party with 42 legislators.

“Today we complete 30 days of JKNC-led government. Under the able leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the government has already taken big strides towards development and dignity for every single resident of J&K,” National Conference wrote on X.

The NC, along with its alliance partners Congress and CPM, had secured 49 seats in the 90 member House. Subsequently, four Independents also extended their support to the government, taking the total number to 53.

The NC also mentioned the four achievements of its government with the first being special status resolution in the Assembly.

Amid strong protest by the BJP, the J&K Assembly on November 6 passed a resolution urging the Centre to initiate a dialogue with elected representatives of the Union Territory for the restoration of special status.

The second achievement in the list is the statehood resolution passed in the cabinet. A day after taking oath as Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah’s new Cabinet had passed a resolution pressing the Centre to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The same was handed over to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when Omar travelled to Delhi.

The third achievement listed is restoration of October – November academic calendar in UT schools. The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet last month had announced reverting to the November academic session for schools in Kashmir up to class IX. In 2022, the L-G administration had shifted the academic school session from November to March. However, the Omar government reversed the L-G decision.

The last achievement mentioned is the age relaxation for candidates appearing for the combined competitive exams. The Jammu and Kashmir government this month increased the upper age limit for J&K Combined Competitive Examinations to 35 years for open merit candidates.
