Northern Command marks Vijay Diwas
To mark India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971, the Army’s Northern Command on Monday celebrated Vijay Diwas in different parts of J&K and Ladakh. Northern Command organised wreath-laying ceremonies at different locations to mark the day that led to the birth of Bangladesh as an independent nation.
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command Lt Gen M V Suchindra Kumar led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Dhruva War Memorial.
“On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar laid a wreath at Dhruva War Memorial and paid homage to the gallant soldiers of the Indian armed forces. He interacted with veterans who continue to inspire us through their legacy of courage and dedication,” an official statement said.
Jammu-based Tiger Division of the Army celebrated 53 years of India’s victory over Pakistan at Balidan Stambh War Memorial.
The event was conducted to commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by the gallant soldiers during the India-Pakistan War of 1971 during which Indian armed forces thwarted Pakistan army’s nefarious designs by defeating Pakistan in only 13 days to end the war on December 16, 1971.
Deputy General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division, laid a wreath at the ‘Eternal Flame’ of the memorial.
