Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will lay the foundation stone of a four-lane ring road around Srinagar (42 km) on Monday. The road, being constructed at the cost of Rs 2,948.72 crore, is for decongestion of the picturesque city.

Two-day visit begins on Monday

  • Besides launching several projects, he will take stock of Zozila Tunnel work

Gadkari, who is embarking on a two-day visit of J&K on September 27, will lay the foundation stones of various projects on the first day of his visit. The following day he will take stock of the Zozila Tunnel project’s progress.

Upgradation work of existing carriageway between Baramula amd Gulmarg (NH-701A) is among the projects that will feature in Gadkari’s itinerary on September 27. Total length of the road is 43 km while the awarded cost of the work is Rs 85 crore. This will ensure smooth rides to tourists visiting Gulmarg. Gadkari will also lay the foundation stone of Donipawa-Ashajipra road on NH-244.

On September 28, Gadkari will visit Z-Morh portal area, and will drive through the Z-Morh main tunnel. Length of the Z-Morh main tunnel is 6.5 km. The tunnel will provide all weather connectivity to Sonmarg, a favourite with tourists.
