'Most wanted' Hizbul ultra killed in J&K encounter

The security forces shot dead a “most wanted” Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, Feroz Ahmad Dar, in an encounter in Pulwama district of J&K today. A senior J&K Police official said, “The forces, in a joint operation, neutralised an ‘A+’ category terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen.”
He went on to add that the slain terrorist was involved in several terror acts, including an attack in Shopian’s Zainapora in 2018, in which four police personnel were killed. Acting on a tip-off regarding the presence of a terrorist in Uzrampathri village of Pulwama district, the security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area last night, the official said. “During the search operation, as the presence of the terrorist got ascertained, he was given repeated opportunities to surrender. But, he opened fire on the joint team of security forces, leading to an encounter,” he said. In the ensuing gunfight, Feroz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Heff-Shrimal in Shopian, was killed.
“As per the police record, Dar had been part of groups involved in several terror cases since 2017, including attacks on security personnel. He was also involved in the killing of a girl in February 2019,” the official said.
