Lieutenant Governor Sinha directs pre-emptive action against terror threats
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has directed for pre-emptive action against terrorist threats in the Union Territory.
Sinha held a review meeting in Srinagar today on the security situation and development aspects of all districts of Kashmir division, said a government spokesperson. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; DGP Nalin Prabhat and DCs and SSPs of all districts of Kashmir Division were among those who attended the meeting.
The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the functioning of the security grid and directed all concerned officials to take pre-emptive action in respect of terrorist threats, the spokesperson said.
“We must safeguard peace and pace of development. At the same time, strongest possible actions need to be taken against terrorists and those who are providing support, safe haven or any assistance to terrorists. Our aim is to ensure socio-economic development and promote a sense of security among the people,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He also stressed that stringent action must be taken against those spreading anti-national propaganda, threatening public safety and law and order. Sinha called for zero-tolerance approach and greater vigilance and coordination between the security agencies to crush terror ecosystem.
He said narco-terrorism issue should be dealt with immediately and dismantling of the entire narco-terror network should receive highest priority.
During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor directed the Deputy Commissioners to monitor the functioning of schemes for welfare of farmers, rural and urban development, self-employment and saturation of key initiatives under the Central sector schemes. He also directed the officials to focus on enhanced road and telecom connectivity in far-flung areas.
Kashmir this month saw two major attack. A convoy of the 18 Rashtriya Rifles was en route to Gulmarg when one of its vehicles was ambushed in the Butapathri area, near Gulmarg, on Thursday evening. Before that, terrorists targeted construction workers in Ganderbal. Seven persons, including a doctor, were killed. The TRF, a shadow outfit of the LeT, had claimed responsibility for the attack.
