Lecture on innovative climate actions held at University of Jammu
The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), SMVDU, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu, organised an interactive lecture titled “Empowering India’s Net Zero Goals: Innovative Climate Actions” on Friday.
The keynote speaker, Sanjeev Anand, Assistant Professor, School of Energy Management and Innovation Ambassador, IIC, SMVDU, Katra, delivered an address, emphasising the critical role of innovation in achieving India’s ambitious climate goals.
The event commenced with a formal welcome by Prof Veenu Kaul, President, Institution’s Innovation Council, University of Jammu, who highlighted the importance of academia and innovation in tackling the global climate crisis.
Sanjeev Anand, in his lecture, expounded India’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, as pledged at the COP26 climate summit. He discussed various innovative strategies, including the adoption of renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, electric mobility and carbon capture technologies, which are essential to drive the nation towards its net-zero targets.
Anand also emphasised the role of youth, research institutions and industries in accelerating climate action and the significance of collaborations among them. Importance of local solutions tailored to India’s diverse ecological and socio-economic landscapes was also brought to light by him. As per him, achieving net-zero is not just a governmental responsibility but a collective societal effort requiring contributions from all sectors.
