Ladakh ex-MP Hassan Khan dies at 88
Former Ladakh Member of Parliament (MP) and retired DIG Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88. He breathed his last at his residence at Bathandi in Jammu.
Born on December 11, 1936, in Simloo village of Batalik in Kargil district of Ladakh, Khan retired as DIG from J&K Police and later became a prominent political figure in Ladakh. Khan was elected as MP from Ladakh in 1999 and 2009.
While he contested on the NC ticket in 1999, he won as an independent in 2009.
On behalf of LAHDC, Kargil, Chief Executive Councillor Mohd Jaffer Akhoon expressed sorrow over the passing away of Khan.
The CEC said that Khan’s statesmanship, determination and deep commitment to the people of Ladakh, especially during his two terms as MP, will forever be remembered.
Recalling his contributions, the CEC said Khan was not merely a public representative but a stalwart whose sincere dedication and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged sections of society sets a benchmark for public service.
