Ten months after the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday ordered an interim apportionment of J&K House in New Delhi.

‘Apportioning amenities’

Consequent to the formation of the UT of Ladakh on October 31, 2019, there is an urgent need for apportioning certain amenities of Jammu and Kashmir Bhawan at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. — Beena Yadav, Director, Ladakh, MHA

In a letter to the J&K Chief Secretary by the Director, Ladakh, Ministry of Home Affairs, Beena Yadav, it has been stated that as per the interim arrangement, the main entrance from Kautilya Marg of Jammu and Kashmir Bhawan, New Delhi, was to be given to the Union Territory of Ladakh along with the adjacent Block-A (with 10 rooms and four suites), old Block-B (with 14 rooms and three suites), 16 Type-B staff quarters and eight Type-C staff quarters.

It states that the second entrance will remain with the UT of J&K along with the adjacent New Block-B (with 24 rooms), Block-C (with 21 rooms and seven suites), and 10 Type-A staff quarters.

“The Advisory Committee constituted under Section 85 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, for apportionment of assets and liabilities of the erstwhile state of J&K between the newly constituted two UTs has submitted its interim report. This interim report has also been shared with both UTs for their comments. The difference of opinion between the two UTs on the interim recommendations of the Advisory Committee also includes the apportionment of Jammu and Kashmir Bhawan at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi,” the letter read.
