School and parents’ bodies have welcomed the government’s decision of reverting to the November academic session for students up to Classs IX in Kashmir.

In a major Cabinet decision, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday announced to revert to the November academic session for schools in Kashmir up to class IX. The demand for restoration in the Valley had grown louder after Jammu and Kashmir got an elected government.

Lone hails move

The decision must be backed up by extending it to classes X, XI and XII. That is where it matters the most. Good that a wrong decision has been reversed. Sajad Lone, Chief, JKPC

“The decision is a historic and necessary step to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s education sector,” GN Var, president, Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir.

He added that this timely decision has garnered widespread support across J&K, especially from parents, teachers, students, educators and all walks of life welcoming the move as a positive step for student success.

“It is a significant step toward enhancing educational outcomes and reducing stress, especially for students preparing for competitive exams,” he said.

Var said the return to the November session will help re-establish a balanced academic rhythm, enabling students to perform optimally.

“The shift to a March session in 2022 had disrupted the academic cycle and added to students’ stress. The November session is in harmony with the region’s seasonal and academic needs, allowing students to focus better on studies and competitive exams preparation,” he said.

In a statement, the Parents Association Of Private Schools, Kashmir, said the change is a positive step that aligns well with the academic needs of our students, offering them a smoother transition and allowing for better preparation.

“Your commitment to enhancing our education system is truly appreciated, and we look forward to more such impactful and forward-thinking policy decisions under your leadership,” the association said while thanking the J-K education minister.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) chief Sajad Lone also welcomed the decision.

“This will have to backed up by extending it to classes X, XI and XII. That is where it matters the most. Good that a wrong decision has been reversed.” he wrote on X.
