Continuing its efforts to curb drug menace, the Jammu police on Thursday attached two houses belonging to “notorious drug peddlers”. The residential units are estimated to be worth crores of rupees.

The houses belonging to Lower Ragoora resident Javed Ahmed and his son Abdul Majeed were attached under Section 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act 1985.

“During the course of investigation conducted by the Jammu police, it has been established that the properties have been acquired through the proceeds of narcotics trade. According to the assessment done by the board of engineers formed by XEN R&B and Revenue Department, the attached properties have been valued at Rs 1.41 crore, which is much more than their legal known source of income,” an official said.

“Four properties of other drug peddlers worth crores of rupees have been frozen in the Rajeev Nagar area and Ragoora by the Jammu police in the last five months,” the official said.

He further said that this operation reaffirmed the Jammu police’s commitment and dedication towards combating the drug menace with full force. The police have invoked the stringent provisions of law to nail down persons involved in drug peddling and set example by seizing/freezing the material gains acquired through the illicit trade.
