A terrorist was killed after security forces foiled an infiltration bid in north Kashmir, an official said on Sunday.
According to Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, the operation took place in border town Uri along the Line of Control.
The Army said based on intelligence inputs regarding a likely infiltration bid, the Army and the J&K Police launched a joint anti-infiltration operation in general area Uri in Baramulla district.
“Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged terrorists, following which they opened indiscriminate fire. Vigilant troops responded with effective fire,” the Army said, adding that the operation was in progress.
The joint team neutralised a “heavily armed terrorist” and recovered one AK rifle, two AK magazines, 57 AK rounds, two pistols, three pistol magazines and other war-like stores from the site. A search operation is underway in the area.
In the recent past, several infiltration bids have been foiled along the LoC in north Kashmir.
Earlier this month, Inspector General (Kashmir Frontier) Ashok Yadav had told the media that around 150 militants are waiting at launchpads across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into the Kashmir valley ahead of winters. He, however, had said security forces would foil any such bid.
