The Jammu and Kashmir government has relaxed the upper age limit to 35 years for open merit candidates appearing for combined competitive examination (CCE) of the Union Territory. The earlier age limit was 32.

The upper age limit for reserved category candidates has been set at 37 years while for persons with physical disability, it is 38 years, according to the order issued on Saturday.

This decision has provided a sigh of relief to thousands of candidates.

The age limit for the CCE had become a major political issue in the Union Territory with political parties asking the government to relax the age for the exam. With this measure, the ruling National Conference said it has fulfilled another election promise.

In a post on X, the National Conference said, “As promised in our manifesto, the JKNC government prescribes revised upper age limit for Jammu & Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination. We wish all the candidates good luck with their preparations!”

Interestingly, the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (J&KPSC) on Sunday postponed the CCE (preliminary) Examination 2024.

In a notice, the Commission said, “In continuation to this office notice dated 21.10.2024, it is for the information of all the concerned candidates appearing in the J&K CCE (preliminary) Examination 2024, notified vide Notification No.04-PSC(DR-P) of 2024 dates 26.07.2024, scheduled to be held on 17.11.2024 is hereby postponed. The fresh date for the said examination shall be notified separately”.

The aspirants were disappointed over the notification released by the public service commission on July 26 this year, wherein the age limit was reduced to 32 for general candidates and 34 for reserved categories.

PDP leader Iltija Mufti had on Saturday stated on X, “With barely a week to go for CCE 2024 prelim exams on the 17th November, aspirants are in a state of utter distress and confusion owing to the government’s ambiguity on the proposed age relaxation. They must ensure GAD issues relevant orders immediately if they are indeed serious about it”.
