A fire broke out at a school in Srinagar on Thursday. The building was severely damaged, but no casualties reported in the incident.

According to the officials, the fire broke out at Muslim Public School in the Kursu Rajbagh area of Srinagar. The fire damaged the top floor of the building, while all students and staff were safe, they added.

A senior official said most of the students were present in the school compound, attending Children’s Day celebrations, when the incident took place.

After the incident, Education Minister Sakina Masood and Lal Chowk MLA Ahsan Pardesi also visited the school after the incident. Pardesi told the media, “As winter approaches, we are committed to providing all possible support to Muslim Public School, Rajbagh, which has been devastated by the fire.”

A government spokesperson said, during her visit, the Education Minister inspected the affected areas, assessed the damage and spoke with the school authorities and local officials about immediate needs and plans for restoration.

She emphasised that the government was committed to supporting the school’s reconstruction efforts and ensuring that students could resume their education as soon as possible.

“The Minister also commended the prompt response of Fire and Emergency Services, whose efforts helped to contain the blaze and prevent further damage,” the spokesperson said. She assured the school administration of department’s assistance in restoring educational facilities and addressing safety concerns to prevent such mishaps in the future.
