Congress sharpens pitch for restoration of Darbar move
With the demand for restoration of Darbar move gaining momentum in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress party on Thursday also demanded immediate restoration of the practice, which was stopped by L-G Manoj Sinha in 2021.
Talking to reporters, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra said the alliance partners, National Conference and Congress, had made the commitment to the people during Assembly elections that the Darbar move practice will be restored just like the earlier times.
Citing the negative impact on Jammu because of the suspension of Darbar move, Karra said the economy of Jammu has been severely hit. “The markets there are deserted. The small and big business are also impacted. Members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu, are dejected,” he said, adding that it has impacted the tourism in Jammu.
Stating that Darbar move is not only an administrative practice, but an exchange of cultures, Karra said the Congress party want this to be restored as soon as possible.
The comments by Congress UT chief came a day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that Darbar will soon be restored as the uniqueness of Jammu cannot be diluted.
