The fact-finding committee constituted by the Congress to understand the reasons behind its poor show in the Assembly polls has asked the leaders and workers of the party to send their feedback to the members of the panel.

The party had formed the committee on October 18 with senior Congress leader Ravinder Sharma as its chairman. Congress was able to win only six seats in the recently concluded Assembly polls—one in Jammu and five in Kashmir.

The fact-finding panel held a meeting on Thursday, in which it invited inputs from the party men, specifically from Jammu region, where it was expecting to win substantial number of seats. The BJP was able to sweep most areas in Hindu dominated Jammu and many senior Congress leaders had to face defeat.

The committee in the coming days will also interact with all senior party leaders and workers including party candidates in Jammu region to compile its report. It is expected to visit different districts of Jammu division to interact with party workers from each Assembly constituency.

J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra, who was also in Jammu on Thursday, also interacted with the committee members and asked them to prepare an in-depth brief about the reasons behind party’s debacle.

Karra asked the party leaders to hold regular interactions with the party workers at the grassroot level and highlight the issues of people and bring them to the notice of the party and the coalition government for prompt action.

Karra said all important commitments and promises would be prioritised by government for fulfilment in a time-bound manner. He said the top most priorities of the party include restoration of statehood with safeguards for land and jobs, to deal with large scale unemployment and restoration of Darbar move practice.

Karra said the party will soon start the process to bring about organisational and other reforms.
