Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Wednesday reviewed the working of the Board of Technical Education (JKBOTE) here. He emphasised the need to impart hands-on training and quality teaching to the students in the technical institutions of the UT.

The Chief Secretary exhorted the board to make polytechnic colleges and Industrial Training Institutions (ITIs) the hub of training, from where quality manpower could be produced for industrial and technical jobs, said a spokesperson in a statement

He further said that to enhance the employability of these pass-outs and increase the traction of these technical courses among students, the board should focus on imparting market-driven skills.

He also advised for taking necessary measures to determine the equivalence of these diplomas given by polytechnic colleges with respect to the mainstream courses offered by the School Education Department. He also asked for making the lateral entry into these courses smooth and hassle-free for the interested candidates.

The Secretary, BOTE, Shaista Shamim, told him about the working and achievements of the board. It was disclosed that during the ensuing and previous academic sessions, the admissions reached 95 per cent, with pass percentage of around 70 per cent.
