BRIEFS: Army troops open fire near LoC in Poonch
Jammu: An Army ambush party opened fire after observing suspicious movement near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, officials said on Thursday. The troops on ambush duty along the possible infiltration routes picked up suspicious movement near Bagyaldara village late on Wednesday night and fired a few rounds. Simultaneously, the cordon around the suspected location was strengthened, the officials said. There were no casualties in the Army firing, they said.— PTI
Two OGWs arrested with AK-56 rifles
Srinagar: Police in South Kashmir's Kulgam have arrested two overground workers (OGWs) of TRF/LeT outfit, the police said on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said during investigation of a case registered under relevant sections at Qazigund police station, two OGWs, namely Altaf Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kachoora Zadoora, and Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Nipora, Mirbazar, were apprehended at Ghulab Bagh Qazigund.
“During questioning the accused disclosed possession of arms and ammunition,” the police said. On their disclosure 2 AK 56 rifles, 4 AK series magazines and 79 live cartridges of AK series were recovered.
“The accused were acting on the directions of Pak handler Hamza Bhai and were in process of carrying out terror activities,” the police said. — OC
Rusted mortar shell found
Jammu: A rusted mortar shell was found in an open field in the Surankote area of Poonch district on Thursday, officials said. The mortar shell was noticed by villagers of Haril and subsequently a joint party of police and the Army rushed to the scene, the officials added. They said the mortar shell was being defused by experts of the bomb disposal squad. — PTI
