Drone activities from Pakistan has substantially reduced after the deployment of an anti-drone system along the Jammu border, a senior BSF officer said on Friday. Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu frontier, DK Boora said the anti-drone system along the international Border (IB) has been upgraded due to which the drone activity from other side of the border has decreased.

Besides the heavy deployment of manpower, the technical surveillance is present on the entire border across Jammu region and it is being further expanded to other places in the country, he said. The system includes detection of an incoming UAV and then neutralizing the threat.

Boora was speaking to the media at an event held in connection with the 60th Raising Day celebrations of the force. “Jammu border is one of the most sensitive in the country and duty here is considered to be very difficult. 24-hour vigil is maintained with precision to stop any infiltration attempt from the other side of the border,” Boora said.

“The (drone) activities from across the border have come down and the exact reason for it is known to them (Pakistan) only. However, since we have upgraded our (anti-drone) systems on the borders, this problem (drone incursions) has dropped to almost zero in Jammu which proves that our technology is successful,” the BSF officer said. He said technology is evolving in every field all across the world.

On a question whether there was rise in infiltration attempts through IB during the winter season, Boora said it was not only on IB but even on the LoC (guarded by Army) as there is little snow in these areas that could become a deterrent to infiltration from Pakistani side.

It is generally believed that the terrorists from Pakistani side try to infiltrate through the IB in the plains of Jammu as many mountainous areas along LoC are buried under the snow.

“However during the winter season when there is fog, we have separate tactics and technology that is put to counter infiltration. We know what kind of technology has to be deployed during fog in Jammu plains,” the IG said.

Boora also said that the force was not concerned about the number of terrorists on the other side waiting to cross the border. “Our aim is to ensure that not even one terrorist should enter on this side” he said.

Asked about the threat posed by the use of US-made M4 carbines by terrorists, the senior police officer said there is no specific threat as all weapons are the same. “There is hype about the foreign-made carbine even though it does not do anything different. It has the same system as other weapons… magazines, bullets and a trigger.

“Today, India is not the same as it was when we had old-fashioned weapons. Now we have new technology, new India-made weapons which are very good,” he said.

‘No info on Rohingya settlements near border’

Jammu: Ruling out a possibility of any unidentified person roaming near the border without the knowledge of security agencies, a senior BSF officer on Friday said there was no presence of illegally settled Rohingya immigrants near the International Border in Jammu sector.

Inspector General of BSF, Jammu frontier, DK Boora said Jammu border has always been sensitive and “we keep a close watch on the situation, irrespective of what happens in Bangladesh or elsewhere”.

“We do not have any information about Rohingyas living near the IB (in Jammu). The entire border is under strict surveillance of BSF and other agencies, while border police also play an important role in the hinterland,” the officer told reporters.

He was responding to a question about any presence of Rohingya near the IB or any attempt by any member of the community or illegally settled Bangladeshi immigrants attempting to cross over to Pakistan.
