AAP MP Sanjay Singh meets Wangchuk at Ladakh Bhawan
AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday met Ladakh-based climate activist Sonam Wangchuk at Ladakh Bhawan in New Delhi.
Wangchuk has been protesting at Ladakh Bhawan for the past nine days after the Delhi Police did not give him and the volunteers accompanying him the permission to protest at Jantar Mantar.
“I met Sonam Wangchuk ji, who has been on a hunger strike for the rights of the people of Ladakh for the last 9 days. He is the voice of Ladakh. Narendra Modi and the BJP have betrayed the people of Ladakh. The BJP people do not even want to talk about the problems of Ladakh. ArvindKejriwal ji and the Aam Aadmi Party are with the people of Ladakh, with (Sonam) Wangchuk.” Singh posted on X.
Around 20-25 other protesters were detained by the Delhi Police on Sunday while demonstrating outside Ladakh Bhawan alongside climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
The protesters are calling for the inclusion of Ladakh under the sixth schedule of the Constitution, which provides for the administration of tribal areas in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. These provisions establish autonomous councils with legislative, judicial, executive, and financial powers to govern the areas independently.
In addition to this demand, the group is advocating for statehood for Ladakh, the establishment of a public service commission, and separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts.
