Three civilians, including a seven-year-old child and a woman, were killed and four others injured in intense shelling by the Pakistan army from across the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara today.

This comes two days after the Indian Army targeted militant launch pads and gun positions across Keran sector in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan. “The ceasefire violation was initiated by Pakistan in Keran sector at 5 pm. Pakistan targeted civilian population in Kupwara sector near the LoC resulting in killing of three civilians,” said Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia.

The shells landed at Reddi Chowkibal and adjoining villages, 20 km from Kupwara town. “Some houses were damaged,” said a resident. In Rajouri, Pakistan targeted forward posts and civilian areas in Poonch, Mendhar and Balakot sectors, injuring two. — TNS
