7 drug peddlers booked under NDPS Act
Jammu and Kashmir Police have booked seven drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Awantipora.
A police spokesperson said notorious drug peddlers, identified Nisar Ahmad Mir, a resident of Mohdpora Kulgam, Manzoor Ahmad Mir, a resident of Tengbal Kulgam, and Hilal Ahmad Mir, a resident of Bungam Okey, have been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, through orders issued by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, and have been lodged in Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu.
In Awantipora, police said four notorious drug peddlers, namely Aadil Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Tulbagh Pampore, Gulzar Ahmad Dar, a resident of Panzgam Awantipora, Yawar Yousuf Sofi, a resident of Kadlabal Pampore, and Feroze Ahmad Chopan, a resident of Larow Jagir Tral, also have been booked under the PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
“Many cases are registered against these drug peddlers and they were involved in promoting drug trade by supplying drugs to youth. They have been lodged in District Jail Jammu and Central Jail Kot Balwal Jammu,” the police said.
“J&K Police is committed to continue its war against the drug peddlers and we seek cooperation of people in curbing social evils, especially drug abuse to save the youth from this fatal addiction,” the police said.
