As many as 483 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 40 Assembly constituencies, which are going to polls in the third and final phase of the J&K Assembly elections, officials said on Thursday.

A statement by the office of the Chief Electoral Office read: “A total of 483 candidates have filed 518 nomination papers for the third phase.” Voting will be held in these 40 segments of seven districts on October 1.

As many as 122 candidates have filed nominations in Jammu district, 111 in Baramulla district, 80 in Kupwara district, 50 in Bandipora district, 47 in Kathua district, 40 in Udhampur district and 33 in Samba district.

In the Udhampur district of Jammu division, 13 candidates have filed from Udhampur West, 11 from Udhampur East; nine from Chenani and seven from Ramnagar (SC).

In Kashmir division: for the six segments in Kupwara district, 12 candidates have filed nomination from Karnah, 13 from Trehgam; 9 from Kupwara, 13 from Lolab, 11 from Handwara, and 22 from Langate constituency.

The notification for the third phase was issued on September, 5, while the time for filing nominations ended on 3 pm on Thursday.

The nomination papers will be scrutinised by returning officers on September 13, while the candidates can withdraw their nomination paper by or before 3 pm on September 17.
