A special room has been set up at the Mohali international airport for keeping suspected cases of Covid-19 in isolation till his/her transportation to the designated health facility.

On the direction of the district health department, a special isolation room was established overnight. An ambulance has been arranged to take the suspect to hospital.

AK Bhardwaj, CEO of the airport, said, “The isolation ward is operational now. It is prepared with the co-ordination of the health and immigration departments.”

As per the airport authorities, stakeholders such as immigration, customs, CISF, airlines etc are fully prepared and vigilant to tackle any suspected or positive case of Covid at the airport. In-flight announcements are being made. Passengers have been asked to fill in health forms as per latest format. One form will be submitted to doctor while a copy will be submitted to the immigration authorities. Each passenger arriving from abroad is screened using non-contact infrared thermometer.

The authorities claimed that dedicated doctors were available for screening passengers of international as well as domestic flights.

Precautions like use of sanitisers, face masks and gloves were being followed by airport staff.

Mohali Civil Surgeon Manjit Singh confirmed that no passenger was found to be suspected case of Covid during screening at the international airport today.

He added that the first suspected case from the town, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital yesterday, has shown improvement. “The patient is stable. We will get the report from the AIIMS, Delhi, by tomorrow evening,” he added.
