RAILWAY underpasses have replaced most level crossings in the state, but these are turning into “death traps”. The underpass on the Surja Khera-Gurthali link under the Narwana-Kurukshetra railway line is used by residents of five to seven villages as an alternative route to Kalayat and Kaithal, but it gets inundated even after light showers. There is no provision for drainage, due to which water in the underpass does not clear for days, making it impossible for pedestrians and commuters on two-wheelers to cross it. Some cases of drowning have also been reported. Despite repeated complaints, the issue has not been resolved. The railway authorities must look into it at the earliest. Roll back decision on S-Plus four floors

The decision of the Town and Country Planning Department to allow S+4 floors is unfair to residents who have been living in various sectors for more than 30 years. The main recommendations of P Raghavendra Rao Committee have been ignored. The department has failed to provide basic amenities such as clean water, efficient sewerage and quick disposal of stormwater. It seems the government has succumbed to the pressure of the real estate and property dealers’ lobby. Sector 9 residents of Ambala City and the Resident Welfare Association has been working towards streamlining the issue of the lack of basic amenities in the area. The government must roll back its decision of allowing S+4 floors in the city immediately.
