Interstate organised crime syndicate busted, 4 nabbed
Amritsar, July 8
With the arrest of four persons, the Amritsar Police Commissionerate claimed to have busted an interstate organised crime syndicate here on Monday.
Among those arrested included the kingpin of the gang, identified as Jai Sharma, alias Sukha Pistol Ambarsariya, who belonged to Prem Nagar locality here.
They were arrested from a flat in Kharar in Mohali district. Four others nabbed by the police were identified as Nikhil Sharma, alias Lala, of Sandhu Colony, Moni of Kot Khalsa in Amritsar, and Arpit Thakur and Karan Sharma, both residents of Sri Naina Devi in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh.
The police recovered two .32 bore pistols, three magazines and eight live cartridges from them.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said accused Sukha Pistol faced seven criminal cases (under the Arms Act, and for snatching and theft) registered against him in different parts of the state.
“The police got reliable inputs that Sukha Pistol and his accomplices had gone to Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh for procuring illegal weapons,” said the DGP, adding that following this, the Civil Lines police station led by SHO Amolakdeep Singh under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhimanyu Rana kept an eagle eye on his movements and traced their location in Kharar.
The police conducted a raid at a flat and arrested all accused and recovered two pistols along with ammunition from their possession.
Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon said as per a preliminary probe, they were planning to attack members of a rival gang. The gang was involved in incidents of snatchings and interstate arms trafficking.
They were booked under Section 111 (Organised Crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 (7) of the Arms Act, he added. Further probe was underway to trace their forward and backward linkages of this module, and identify the MP-based arm smugglers, he added.
